Description

The Suna Bowl — a contemporary take on the traditional Japanese chawan — embodies timeless elegance through clean lines and understated beauty. Handcrafted in exclusive collaboration with Clay & Canvas by Jess Hollin in her Oxfordshire studio, each piece is wheel-thrown with meticulous attention to detail.

The smooth ceramic finish and refined form create a versatile aesthetic that complements any kitchen, whilst the generous interior provides ample space for proper whisking technique. The thoughtfully designed pouring spout ensures elegant, drip-free serving, and the traditional foot ring (koudai) sits comfortably in your palm.

Embracing the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi (侘寂), each chawan celebrates the natural variations inherent in handmade pottery. Slight differences in glaze and form are not flaws — they are the beautiful signature of human artistry and proof that your bowl is one-of-a-kind.

HOW TO USE
  1. Warm your bowl: Pour hot water into the bowl to warm the ceramic (this also blooms your whisk)
  2. Empty and dry: Discard the water and gently dry the interior
  3. Sift your matcha: Add 1-3g (one perfect scoop) of matcha through a sieve
  4. Add water: Pour 60-80ml of hot water (70-80°C)
  5. Whisk: Hold the bowl steady with one hand whilst whisking briskly in a zigzag motion until frothy
  6. Enjoy mindfully: Cradle the bowl in both hands and savour the moment

After use, rinse with warm water and allow to air dry. Hand wash recommended.
